Built by the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon
Company in 1887 for the Great Northern Railway.
Transferred to the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway in
1903, becoming running No 129 after a request for updated stock
from the parent companies.
Withdrawn in 1935. Body removed from underframe and used with a
sister coach as a house at Pott Row near Kings Lynn until 1989
when due to redevelopment of the site 129 was rescued by the M&GNJRS.
The sister coach had one side removed to create a lounge so was
not suitable for preservation, but yielded a few useful spares.
In 1989 a tube wagon chassis DB 732930 was purchased and the
coach mounted on this frame.
Restoration was piece meal until the new Weybourne C&W shed was
opened. Restoration was completed in February 2009 and the
vehicle carried passengers at the 50th Anniversary gala event. |
