Brief Outline

31 207 (D5631) is a  Brush design and was originally fitted with a Mirrlees 12 cylinder power unit. All 31's were re-engined with an English Electric unit by BR between 1964-69. The Class 31's went on to be the most successful of the type 2's and could be found all over the BR network working all types of trains, although primarily remembered for their secondary passenger work. The class survived in use until the end of BR and with EWS into 2000.
D5631 was withdrawn by BR in 2001 as 31 162.

The loco is in the works for repairs to the body work, especially the lower cab side areas near the floor where rusting is severe.

July 2007 The Society's 31207 has been in the shed to repair the leak in the fuel system header tank, and replace a roof arch. The fuel system includes a header tank, which is part of the roof at the Sheringham end, on the seaward side. There has been an ugly stain running from the roof down over the radiators, which came from this leak. The roof section was removed, and the tank repaired. The roof is in several sections which can be removed. Between each section is a gutter which also acts as a support. On the join between the last roof section at the Holt end, and the cab roof, the gutter had corroded away, which is not good news, as this is immediately above the main electrical cubicle. This has now been replaced with a new section. Both of these jobs are typical problems on Class 31 locos.
