Brief Outline

Built by Hunslet & Company of Leeds, 'King George' was sent to Linby Colliery on 20 May 1942. After moving to Bestwood Colliery in 1959 and on to Gedling Colliery in 1960, No. 2409 was purchased by Titanic Steam Ship Enterprises and moved to Ecclestone, Staffordshire. In 1980 it was sold for scrap to Jeremy Walker scrap merchants of Witney, Oxfordshire, and was rescued and moved to Toddington on 28 June 1981. The locomotive was purchased by the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway plc and restored by their volunteers. After a lengthy overhaul it re-entered service ion 2000, and hauled their popular Santa Specials, demonstration freight trains and Winchcombe Shuttle trains.
