King George 15" 0-6-0ST 2409

Brief Outline
Built by Hunslet & Company of Leeds, 'King George' was sent to Linby
Colliery on 20 May 1942. After moving to Bestwood Colliery in 1959
and on to Gedling Colliery in 1960, No. 2409 was purchased by
Titanic Steam Ship Enterprises and moved to Ecclestone,
Staffordshire. In 1980 it was sold for scrap to Jeremy Walker scrap
merchants of Witney, Oxfordshire, and was rescued and moved to
Toddington on 28 June 1981. The locomotive was purchased by the
Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway plc and restored by their
volunteers. After a lengthy overhaul it re-entered service ion 2000,
and hauled their popular Santa Specials, demonstration freight
trains and Winchcombe Shuttle trains.
