Brief Outline

The S160 is a 2-8-0 loco built in Lima, Ohio, for the US Army Transportation Corps (USATC) in 1944. It was shipped to Britain under Lend-Lease arrangements and then went to China in 1946, where it stayed until brought back to Britain for preservation in 1995.

It wears the black livery of the USATC and is numbered 5197. The loco weighs 135 tons and has a 5-chime Nathan whistle. Engines of this class were used in the build-up of forces for the D-Day invasion of France.

The engine is resident on the Churnet Valley Railway, and was on the NNR from August 2006 until January 2007.
