LMS 5MT 4-6-0 - 45305

45305 is owned by the Draper Family of Hull
though operated by the 5305 Locomotive Society and
is visiting for the September 2011 Steam Gala (photo:
Robert Price).
Brief Outline
The "Black Fives" are a mixed traffic design, a "do-anything go-anywhere" type, designed by
William A Stanier. These were to be the LMS's version
of the
GWR
Halls, Stanier previously having been a GW employee. The "Black Fives" shared
the two outside cylinder arrangement, tapered boiler and Belpaire firebox and
similar superheater arrangement and 6 foot driving wheels.
