Brief Outline

GER originally introduced the Holden designed B12 Class in 1911. Subsequently it was rebuilt by Gresley to class B12/3, with a larger boiler, round topped firebox and long travel valves. Our engine - No 8572 - was completed in 1928 and is now the only working inside cylinder 4-6-0 in Europe.

February 2008 Almost stripped ready for an initial boiler examination. The final operation of lifting the boiler from the frames will take place when there is more room in the sheds.
September 2011

B12 Being reassembled at Ian Riley's works at Bury just off the East Lancashire Railway. There are a lot of minor detailed parts needing refurbishment before running in can start.  The engine will return to Norfolk for the final act of repainting into LNER green for the official relaunch

New lagging and sheeting to the boiler, is a snug fit and designed to be easily removed to enable inspection of the firebox welds.
