Brief Outline

This Class of engine was a Worsdell design for the Great Eastern Railway, originally introduced in 1883, later modified by Holden. Our, now unique, J15 engine was built at Stratford in 1912, as No. 564. The engine carried several running numbers (LNER 7564 & BR 65462) before withdrawal in 1962, having outlived many other, more modern, types of locomotive.

Diary
July 2007 Available for service. Re-tube scheduled for August. Maintenance is scheduled for the new year
Autumn2007/Winter 2008 Re-tube completed in October. Also new  pre-fabricated concrete firebox arch has been inserted. Using concrete is an experiment-normally the arch is brick. A new blastpipe has been made to replace the cast original which is very wasted in places. In the longer term a new cast pipe may be procured.
J15 visited the Gloucester/Warwick Railway from mid November and is due back late January It visited Barrow Hill en route to Gloucestershire.
It would appear that it was well received and performed ok – including the new tubes and blast pipe.
Once back at the NNR, preventative planned maintenance to the axlebox underkeep pads will take place before the main season. A new chimney pattern is nearly complete

February 2008 Back  from GWR and ran much of the half term week. But on 12th February the right hand crosshead fell apart. This was very quickly repaired by borrowing a part from 69621 and after a few adjustments was back in service the same day. On the following Thursday the engine stopped again because of excessive priming, probably caused by an overdoes of the new water treatment.
March 2008 Visits North Yorkshire Moors Railway for NYMR's LNER Festival
