Brief Outline

The R.A.Riddles designed WD 2-10-0 90775 had been working on the NNR since 2003, on loan from The Essex Locomotive Society, when, in March 2006, it was purchased by the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway Society.
Built in 1943, the loco was the third in the first batch of 100 built by North British Locomotive Co. Glasgow in 1943 as works no. 25438. It was numbered 3652 by the Ministry of Supply and later, after shipping abroad, was renumbered as WD73652. It was shipped (from new) to the Middle East and ended up in Egypt where it worked until 1945. In 1945, along with 15 sister locos it was sold to Hellenic State Railways (SEK). In 1967, having been displaced by new diesels, it was relegated to secondary work and finally withdrawn from service in 1979. It was repatriated to the UK in August 1984.

July 2007

Following recent repairs steam testing commenced on 28 July. All flexible stays have been replaced and the cups that screw over the ball ends have been fitted. In addition the rigid stays have been fitted, complete with bosses on the outer firebox wrapper. Provided the steam test is successful it is hoped that 90775 will be available for service in a week or so

December 2007

Was main engine for Santa Specials and Mince Pie Specials, only missing two days due to a small crack in the firebox.
Needs work on the front end, including reboring pistons and valve cylinders. The vacuum injector also needs attention as it has a constant blow.

February 2008

Cylinders and valve chests being rebored. Also having new heads, glands and piston rings. The piston rods and slide bars are being machined true. The regulator valve is being overhauled. Scheduled to be back in service for April.
August 2009 Out of service pending repairs
