Brief Outline

Y7 0-4-0 - 68088 was built in 1923 and withdrawn in 1952. It was initially sent to was sent to Alexandra Dock Shed at Hull where it remained until 1937 when it was moved to  Dairycoates shed, at the West end of Hull. In 1943 it was moved to the Stratford Locomotive Works in East London where it remained until its withdrawal in 1952. It was during this time at Stratford that is was renumbered from 985 to 8088 and, in October 1948 to 68088. In November 1952 it went to the NCB's Bentick Colliery until 1964 when it was purchased by, its current owner, the Y7 Preservation Society. It was permanently relocated to the NNR in 2004.

Work to restore the loco to running order will increase now the WD has been repaired.

July 2007

Work is now picking up.
The engine is re-wheeled, the tanks have been descaled and repaired, the pistons are in, the frames are painted, the brake gear has been overhauled and one of the next jobs
will be to bring the boiler indoors for
work to start on that in the new year.
The axle boxes have been fitted along with crossheads and pistons. New piston rings and stuffing boxes have been manufactured.

Progress is slow at the moment. The boiler is now in the shed for the removal of faulty fire box plates
