Nine Elms depot was strategically placed to serve Waterloo Station, London's greatest terminus, Nine Elms or 70A as it was coded by BR, supplied  'Merchant Navy' Class locomotives for the many prestigious trains.80 pages of excellent colour photographs with appendices of Locomotive allocations for 1950, 1959 and 1965.

Title: The Heyday of Tyseley and its Locomotives

There has been steam at Tyseley continuously since 1908. The depot was built on a green field site to cater for the growth in traffic on the GWR in the Birmingham area  with the development of city suburban services, the opening of the new cross country route through Stratford and Cheltenham to the west, and the growth of freight traffic, not least the Moor Street fruit market near the Bull Ring.
