Title: Rescued from Barry

Just one month after the end of regular BR Steam operation in 1968 the first rescue from Woodham's scrapyard  at Barry was achieved when a Midland 0-6-0 left for the Keithley an Worth  Valley line. It was the beginning of what has become probably become the greatest rescue of our industrial heritage, for in the intervening years no fewer than 160  locomotives have been brought back from the brink of oblivion at Barry.

Sir William Stanier, as CME of the LMS  for 11 years from 1932, was directly responsible for the most profound turn around in steam locomotive engineering on this, the largest railway in Britain. His later Pacifics represented the ultimate development for the heaviest  express passenger work on the West Coast main  line. This book  gives an in-depth analysis  of these locomotives.
