This
detailed profusely illustrated history of the MIdland
& Great Northern Railway, and in particular
its motive power right from the early days of the
companies which grew to form it, therfore fills another
important gap in the history of the Midland Railway. The
text includes much new information that has come to
light in the last twenty years, adding to the research
previously carried out in the 1980s, whilst much of the
illustrated content, including numerous detailed plans
and a plethora of historic photographs, has not
previously been published

A DVD
featuring scenes from the North Norfolk Railway filmed
mainly during the autumn and winter of 2008. the long
awaited return of the beautifully restored Gresley
Quad-Art coach set was probably the highlight of the
year. This unique set features heavily on this DVD and
is seen during the Autumn Steam Gala and the 40s weekend
along with the equally resplendent wooden bodied LNER
Pigeon Van. In addition to resident locos N7 69621, WD
90775 and J15 65462, two Great Western designs also
visited the Norfolk line. From the Kent and East Sussex
Railway came GWR 16xx Pannier tank 1638 and making its
second appearance in North Norfolk was the Furness
Railway Trust's 56xx 0-6-2T 5643. Visitors to 40s
Weekend were momentarily distracted as the low flying Battle
of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster and
Spitfire made passes over the line. Engine crews
whistled and hooted a salute as the veteran aicraft made
there flypast. Finally after overhaul lasting five
years, Ring Haw is seen hauling a four coach
Mince Pie Specials between Sheringham and Holt This
popular little Hunslet 0-6-0 tank engine had been the
stalwart of The North Norfolk Railway in it's pioneering
years so it was no surprise that Ring Haw's
return to traffic was greeted with a degree of
excitement by it's followers. Runs for approx.60mins.
Edited without commentary for your enjoyment.

The
Author lived and worked on the route and thus gives us
an insight into the operation of the line and dwells on
the fascinating architectural details. Much of the
traffic was local produce, but there was on long
distance express, which also receives detailed
attention.
