The crane was built to drawing number 80117 and was delivered as new to the LNER, possibly with the number 900749. It was transferred into BR ownership on nationalisation and was renumbered DE331332 (D=Departmental, E=Eastern).  Purchased from BR in 1980, the crane was delivered by road to the NNR on 7th August 1981. The crane that exists today is the Norwich crane with the ropes and spare boiler from the Diss crane.
